In the last years our group established a cloning system in E. coli for the production of antigens in fusion with a TLR2 ligand, the OprI lipoprotein from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In this project, the OprI system will be employed to understand how TLR2 engagement, combined with other innate stimuli, can be used for polarization of immune responses and imprinting of specific immunity tropism towards mucosae and skin.

PTDC/CVT-EPI/3460/2012. - Let’s make them fall: A genomic, proteomic and immuno-histologic approach on the involution of tick aggregation cement. Funding FCT: 165 000€.
This project aims at studying the involution of tick cement composition occurring on the final “feeding” stages of this parasite upon its host leading to the synthesis of a “antibody” or a vaccine introduced in the host, capable of inhibiting or decreasing cement preservation and inducing tick precocious fall out interrupting it’s life cycle, thus severely impairing its survival and reproduction.

This project aims to understand the molecular mechanisms behind adaptation to nutritional stress in dairy goats. It consists on a systems biology (Proteomics, lipidomics, transcriptomics and metabolomics) study on the mammary gland of two goat breeds from the canary islands with different levels of adaptation to nutritional stress. With thos project we will establish biomarkers of tolernace to Seasonal weight loss in goats, of use in selection programs in small ruminants.
